Researchers are conducting trials to examine how stem cells derived from pelvic bone marrow can be used to restore tissue following a heart attack. "The thought is the body may use itself to heal itself. Because stem cells are immature cells, they have the potential to develop into new blood vessels and preserve cardiac muscle cells," says interventional cardiologist and lead researcher Dr. Vijaykumar Kasi.
