A study found that severe psoriasis patients who received more than 350 psoralen and ultraviolet A treatments have significantly higher risk of developing squamous cell carcinoma and basal cell carcinoma than those who received 49 or fewer PUVA treatments. Researchers analyzed data on 1,380 PUVA-treated patients and found that 25% of them developed 2,973 biopsy-proven SCCs, while 24% developed 1,729 BCCs.
