Patients who were on high-dose statin treatment did not appear to have a higher risk of developing new-onset diabetes compared with their counterparts who were on low-/moderate-dose statin therapy, an analysis found. Larger prospective studies are needed to examine the risks and benefits of long-term statin use in people at high risk of diabetes, the study's lead author said. The results were presented at the World Congress of Cardiology 2012.
