The risk of blood loss during corrective pediatric spine procedures varies with the underlying disease, according to a study in the journal Spine. Patients with cerebral palsy had higher normalized blood loss than patients with idiopathic scoliosis, other neuromuscular disorders, or genetic and syndromic conditions. Those with neuromuscular disorders were found to have greater blood loss than patients with Scheuermann's kyphosis or idiopathic scoliosis.
