The Obama administration is launching an "all fronts" war on infected computers known as botnets, which hackers use to launch malicious attacks and initiate network breaches, according to Howard Schmidt, the White House cybersecurity chief. Schmidt has called for the establishment of a private-public coalition, including Internet service providers, vendors, privacy rights advocates and trade associations, whose goal it is to raise public awareness of botnets and develop strategies for mitigating their danger to consumers and businesses.
