Columbus, Ohio, has begun construction on a 4.5-mile, 20-foot diameter pipe 170 feet underground that will have the capacity to hold 55 million gallons of stormwater and sewage. The $342 million project, part of the state's 40-year, $2.5 billion program to reduce sewage spills into the area's waterways, is scheduled for completion by 2015.
