Australia's Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation, together with the Grains Research and Development Corporation, developed a variety of safflower that produces more than 90% oleic acid. The CSIRO Crop Biofactories Initiative silenced genes involved in the conversion of oleic acids to polyunsaturates. The achievement was announced at the 103rd AOCS Annual Meeting & Expo, held April 29­ to May 2 in Long Beach, Calif.
