Researchers across the globe are using advances in robotics and other technology to create assistive devices for individuals with disabilities. At the Institute of Intelligent Systems and Robotics in Paris, glasses equipped with sensors and cameras transfer information to a map on a handheld electronic Braille device for wearers who cannot see or who have hearing impairments. A system at the University of Nevada is being developed for the smartphone to help improve navigation for people who cannot see.
