Hulu has declined to comment on a story in the New York Post that the online video streamer will start requiring users to subscribe to a multichannel-TV service before allowing them to access its programming. Hulu, whose owners include News Corp., Comcast's NBCUniversal and Disney, is reportedly part of a broader movement called "authentication" that pay-TV and content providers are moving toward to protect their revenue and discourage so-called cord-cutting. Comcast is said to be considering a similar move for the upcoming Olympic Games.
