Morbidly obese patients without diabetes who underwent Roux-en-Y gastric bypass surgery showed improvements in body weight and insulin sensitivity but had a ≥15% decrease in plasma glucose concentration at the third hour of an oral glucose tolerance test. Researchers also found postoperative patients showed higher insulin-stimulated insulin secretion than the preoperative group but had lower rates than obese and lean controls. The results appear in Diabetes Care.
