New York City's health board voted 8-0 with one abstention on Thursday in favor of restricting the sale of sugary drinks in sizes larger than 16 ounces. Despite claims that such a ban restricts personal freedom, the Health Department said that it has received a favorable response from the public. The approval of the bill is a major step to curb obesity and save lives, Mayor Michael Bloomberg said.
