A study presented at the European Association for the Study of Diabetes meeting revealed women who were diagnosed with diabetes during their hospitalization for acute myocardial infarction had a threefold increased risk of dying over the next three years compared with those who did not have diabetes. Men diagnosed with diabetes at the time of acute MI were two times more likely than those without diabetes to die over the next three years, researchers noted.
