One traveler recently found out that even though he didn't use his ticket, he would be unable to get a refund on taxes collected by Spirit Airlines; a few weeks later, using a voucher from Spirit, he would have to pay taxes again. "Federal taxes comprise approximately $60 on a typical $300 ticket," e-mailed Victoria Day, spokeswoman for Airlines for America. "Airlines do not keep any taxes collected and remit all funds to the government per tax law."
