After 10 years as the city manager of Lowell, N.C., Ben Blackburn is leaving to become the city manager of Cherryville, N.C., his hometown. Cherryville has been in the news since 2011 because of problems with city officials, including the arrest of three police officers accused of extortion and the resignation of the police chief. "There's challenging days ahead for the city ... [but] Cherryville's made up of good people," Blackburn said. "I think working together as a team, we can put the dark days behind us."
