With only 5% of U.S. college graduates having science, technology, engineering and math-related degrees and demand for such workers growing, schools, businesses and others must do more to feed the STEM pipeline, writes Justina Nixon-Saintil, director of education initiatives for the Verizon Foundation. "Our focus should be two-fold: to help teachers to innovate the way students are learning science and math so that they gain confidence and achieve while also driving interest and passion for STEM. And this needs to happen well before students enter high school."
