The National Transportation Safety Board has released its recommendations for new Federal Aviation Administration regulations governing cargo cabin fire safety. The recommendations include requirements for fire-suppression and fire-detection technologies to be present in the cargo-containing areas of cargo jets.
The Department of Transportation's Bureau of Transportation Statistics has released a report showing that passenger counts in August 2012 were unchanged from the numbers in August 2011. Load factor and revenues per mile were up, and capacity remained nearly unchanged.
The Senate voted 62-37 to strike a provision in the defense appropriations bill that would have prohibited the Pentagon from buying alternative fuels if they were more expensive than conventional fuels. "Reports of the demise of biofuels' political currency appear to be premature. Americans clearly support reducing our dependence upon foreign oil and strengthening our national and economic security via domestic renewable fuels," said Bob Dinneen, president and CEO of the Renewable Fuels Association.
