Researchers led by Alberto Peruzzo, a physicist from the University of Bristol in England, conducted an experiment to determine whether light is composed of particles or waves. Using a measurement apparatus that depends on a quantum effect known as quantum nonlocality, researchers found that light exhibits the behavior of waves and particles at the same time. "The measurement apparatus detected strong nonlocality, which certified that the photon behaved simultaneously as a wave and a particle in our experiment. This represents a strong refutation of models in which the photon is either a wave or a particle," Peruzzo said.
