U.S. retail sales hit $59.1 billion during the Thanksgiving weekend, up 13% from the same four-day period last year, according to NRF, with 28% of the weekend's shoppers hitting stores on Thanksgiving night. “I think the only way to describe the Thanksgiving openings is to call it a huge win,” said NRF CEO Matthew Shay. “[Shopping] has really become an extension of the day’s festivities.”
