Freight carload traffic on U.S. railroads dropped 1.6% from year-ago levels in the week ending Dec. 8, and intermodal slipped 0.3%, according to the Association of American Railroads. However, petroleum shipments surged 59.5%, and 11 other of the 20 carload categories recorded growth. North American chemical shipments climbed 5.6% in the latest week, AAR noted.
