The mechanics school at California's Van Nuys Airport has trained thousands of students seeking a career in aviation, but it may close or have to be relocated if budget cuts make it impossible for the Los Angeles Unified School District to keep it open. "Many businesses hire our graduates, from small engine shops to major aerospace firms," said Michael Phillips, a senior instructor at the school. "It would be devastating to our program if we had to close or move."
