A species of piranha that lived about 10 million years ago had a bite so strong it could shatter shells and crack bones, according to a study published in the journal Scientific Reports. Megapiranha paranensis weighed some 22 pounds, which would have given it a bite force of between 1,240 and 4,750 newtons, scientists say -- stronger pound for pound than a Tyrannosaurus rex bite.
