Researchers at the University of California, San Francisco and Stanford University have netted $17.8 million in grant funding from the California Institute of Regenerative Medicine. The institute allotted more than $36 million to medical scientists this year. Among the winners are Stanford's Alan Cheng, who is studying progenitors of inner ear hair cells, and UCSF's Ann Capela Zovein, who is researching how to reprogram blood vessels to produce stem cells.
