Gov. Rick Scott is proposing that Florida's 12 state universities aim to attract more students to majors in high-demand fields such as science and engineering by offering a three-year tuition freeze in those areas. The plan is being opposed by those who believe it will harm education in the humanities, but supporters say it will prepare more students for today's job market. In addition, Scott is asking that the state's 28 colleges (formerly known as community colleges) offer $10,000 bachelor degrees, an initiative introduced last year by Gov. Rick Perry in Texas.
