Indians have been publicly debating since the Dec. 16 gang rape and beating of a 23-year-old medical student on a moving bus in the capital, Delhi. Nearly two weeks of demonstrations have injured police and protesters alike. "[T]he public has been largely apathetic to women's plight, but many are hoping the attack could be a turning point in the way India treats women," writes Shivam Vij. The unnamed victim is "fighting for her life" in critical condition, while the teenage victim of a gang rape last month has committed suicide.
