A $2.5 million stadium with a domed roof in Edna, Texas, will function as a storm shelter when hurricanes sweep through the area. The structure is designed to withstand winds up to 200 miles per hour and has steel-reinforced, double-block walls and concrete piers extending 30 feet below. The ceiling has several "layers of concrete, insulation and rebar." The arena is the second hurricane dome in Texas, and more are planned.
