Lawmakers from Boeing's home state of Washington are standing behind the Federal Aviation Administration's decision to ground the Dreamliner 787. Rep. Rick Larsen, D-Wash., and Sen. Maria Cantwell, D-Wash., say they support the review.
A report by CE Delft says airlines have raised fares to cover fees from the European Union's emissions-trading policy. Airlines for America dismissed the CE Delft report, saying, "There is no scenario under which U.S. carriers are making -- or will make -- money off of the EU ETS."
United Airlines has begun work on an aircraft-maintenance hangar at Newark Liberty International Airport in New Jersey. "This state-of-the-art facility will be the workplace for more than 700 United aviation maintenance technicians," said Joe Ferreira, United vice president of line maintenance. The carrier plans to invest $25 million in the hangar.
US Airways has posted a fourth-quarter profit of $37 million, compared to a profit of $18 million for the same quarter of the prior year. "We couldn't be happier with the performance of US Airways in 2012," said Doug Parker, chairman and CEO of the carrier.
