Virgin Atlantic is keen to protect "competitive connectivity to Ireland" after International Airlines Group takes over Aer Lingus. "We just like to see customers have competitive alternatives, and we'd like to be a part of that," said Virgin Atlantic CEO Craig Kreeger.
The U.S. Department of Transportation approved a deal between Delta Air Lines and Virgin Atlantic Airways. The pact will allow the carriers to align fares and schedules for trans-Atlantic flights. Delta acquired a 49% stake in Virgin Atlantic earlier this year.
United Airlines plans to reduce the number of boarding groups and make other changes to streamline the boarding process. Not including pre-boarding, the number of boarding groups will decrease to five from seven. United Airlines is scheduled to fully deploy the changes Thursday.
Transaero Airlines and UTair Aviation in Russia have signed a deal with Vnukovo International Airport in Moscow for an interline connection. The agreement will let passengers transfer from UTair's domestic flights to Transaero's international flights.
Qantas Airways is considering rolling out its deal to sell single-use passes to its Qantas Club lounges throughout 2013. In December, the carrier offered four passes for $179, and the promotion was "a great success," said Nicholas Bull, the airline's head of domestic lounges.
