New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie recognized the $1.7 billion that general aviation contributes to his state's economy every year by declaring May to be General Aviation Appreciation Month. A number of advocacy groups applauded the move. "We thank Gov. Christie for recognizing the many contributions of general aviation in New Jersey," said Selena Shilad, executive director of the Alliance for Aviation Across America.
Boeing outpaced Airbus in 2012 deliveries, but the European aircraft manufacturer has strong orders for its A320neo. "Both Airbus and Boeing are in good shape," said Thomas Picherit, an analyst at AlphaValue. "The orders show demand is there to maintain high production rates."
The emissions-trading scheme in the European Union may not apply to the U.S. and other countries if the International Civil Aviation Organization hammers out an agreement on carbon emissions. However, the scheme is still in effect for EU states, countries in the European Economic Area, and Switzerland and Croatia.
Delta Air Lines traffic rose by 0.5% in December, boosted by international demand, with traffic on the carrier's Latin American routes increasing by 12% during the month. The carrier increased its 2012 load factor to 82.7% from 80.9% in the prior year.
