DISH Network was among the multichannel video providers who demonstrated new, "souped up set top boxes" at an electronics industry trade show last week, writes Shalini Ramachandran. Consumers continue to prefer the equipment over smart TVs and video-equipped gaming consoles largely because the set-tops can hold huge amounts of storage for recording shows. Next-generation boxes will be able to hold at least a terabyte of storage while allowing for multiple concurrent recordings and greater engagement with Internet-based video.
