The Novato Unified School District in California has created an elementary-school class designed especially for students with autism spectrum disorders. Students do their work on iPads, take frequent sensory breaks, use cubicles to reduce distractions and visit peers to work on social and communication skills. "By having a class in the district, that means students don't have to leave Novato to get the services they need, so that is a huge benefit," Liz Smith, who oversees the district's special education, said.
