The American College of Cardiology Foundation and the American Heart Association worked in collaboration with other groups including SCAI to standardize terminology and data elements associated with acute coronary syndrome and coronary artery disease. The effort was designed to improve quality and research by easing and standardizing communication. "Despite centuries of advances in medicine and science, the clinical community does not use a single vocabulary to communicate," said Dr. James Tcheng. "We are espousing and advancing the development of a unified vocabulary in cardiovascular medicine."
