A barge that struck a railroad bridge in Vicksburg, Miss., on Sunday has approximately 7,000 of gallons of crude oil unaccounted for, much of which leaked into the Mississippi River, according to the U.S. Coast Guard. It remains unclear whether all of the missing oil spilled into the Mississippi River, as some of it could have leaked into voids inside the vessel, said Petty Officer 3rd Class Jonathan Lally. The incident's impact on the environment has been minimal because of a containment boom, Lally said.
