Archaeologists recently excavated hoards of treasure buried beneath a citadel within the ancient Artezian settlement on the Ukrainian peninsula of Crimea. Roman armies had invaded the settlement 2,000 years ago, forcing the wealthy to retreat into the citadel and bury their treasure. Researchers described the findings, which include coins, jewelry and glass vessels, in the journal Ancient Civilizations from Scythia to Siberia.
