Energy companies would benefit more from worker experience than technology during initial shale oil and natural gas drilling, a Tudor, Pickering Holt & Co. report determined. Experience allowed Nabors Industries, which was among the first drillers in Montana's part of the Williston Basin, to keep the biggest market share in the formation. Technology, however, will play a larger role as unconventional drilling matures, the report added.
