According to Scot Hopps, the Lenox Hotel's director of sustainability, going green doesn't have to take away from the luxury-hotel experience. He says the Boston hotel has introduced a lot of behind-the-scenes greening measures, including the use of soy-based ink for printing and washable plates and cups in the employee cafeteria. The historical hotel wound up customizing LED bulbs for its candelabra after off-the-shelf LED bulbs didn't give off a warm glow, overcoming a challenge presented by the age of the candelabra and the desire for more energy efficiency.
