Using a macro X-ray fluorescence analysis, art historians say they are one step closer to unearthing a hidden painting long believed to be beneath Rembrandt's "Old Man in Military Costume." Scientists have used conventional X-ray methods to no avail since the Dutch painter used the same paint in the original and final versions, making it difficult to examine each layer.
