Officials in the state of Washington have received 340,000 petition signatures for a ballot measure to require food made with genetically modified crops to be labeled as such for sale. Initiative 522 awaits legislative action, whether a vote on the measure, a November vote or an alternate ballot proposal. If adopted, the initiative would become effective on July 1, 2015.
