Jewel-Osco has named Shane Sampson as its new president. Sampson previously served as president of Jewel-Osco parent New Albertson's Boston-based Shaw's division. Jewel-Osco has also added five more former Dominick's locations in the Chicago area, bringing the retailer's number of Dominick's store purchases to nine.
For a fifth year, Jewel-Osco held the Hispanic Heritage VIP Reception. More than 400 people attended the Sept. 27 event at the Mexican Museum of Fine Arts in Chicago, including actress and presenter Adamari Lopez and Jewel-Osco President Brian Huff.
Jewel-Osco has added pharmacy consulting and dispensing services to its business through its partnership with Passages Hospice, a provider of hospice care in Northern and Central Illinois. The program initially will involve 15 Jewel-Osco stores but talks are under way for expansion.
Jewel-Osco announced plans to open a 16,000-square-foot store in Chicago under the new "Urban Fresh, by Jewel" banner. The store is Jewel-Osco's first foray into smaller formats. "We hope to learn as much as possible from the effort, paying close attention to customer feedback, so we can deliver the best experience for our shoppers," said Jewel-Osco's president.
