Analysts expressed skepticism that a large number of consumers will buy up the array of "phablets" -- smartphones with large screens -- that smartphone makers introduced this week at 2013 International CES. "We certainly see more vendors going after it, but I still believe the opportunity is small because of the compromise the device delivers," said Carolina Milanesi of Gartner. One industry observer identified five major trends at the show: four-core processors, HD-enabled screens, longer battery life, improved cameras and better device protection from the elements.
