Historic buildings are being preserved digitally with 3D technology employed by CyArk, a nonprofit based in Oakland, Calif. The most recent project has been the scanning with lasers of California's centuries-old missions, such as the one in San Juan Bautista, which is threatened by the San Andreas Fault. "The fault line is just about 40 or 50 feet away, down a little slope," said CyArk archaeologist Justin Barton. "San Juan Bautista is a poster child for exactly why we're doing this."
