A draft bill in the House of Representatives would place stringent restrictions on developers of mobile applications, giving consumers the option of discontinuing service and having all data collection halted. The proposed Application Privacy, Protection, and Security Act -- which would also require app providers to obtain consent before collecting user data -- is paralleled by similar privacy efforts by the National Telecommunications and Information Administration and Sen. Al Franken, D-Minn.
