New York City's major airports are working to alleviate congestion by adding "high-speed taxiways." The taxiways allow faster exits from runways because they are positioned differently than the traditional angle of 90 degrees. "The sooner you get that landing off the runway, the sooner you can get a departure," says Tom Bock, general manager of operational enhancements at the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey. Airlines for America, the industry's trade group, expressed support for the port authority's efforts.
