While federal recognition of Martin Luther King Jr. Day has been in place since the 1980s, a New Jersey high school has been honoring him since his death in 1968. Students recently gathered for the 44th year in a row for an assembly to recognize King and his role in American history, making the school among the first in the U.S. to have a special ceremony for the civil rights leader.
