The consolidation of health care providers could shift costs from Medicare and other public sector programs to individual health insurance customers, employers and other private payers, Blackstone Group's Robert Galvin said. "Very high price increases year-to-year" are affecting employers and private sector health plans in certain markets with Medicare-approved accountable care organizations, Galvin said. He cited a study linking consolidation with rising health care costs.
