Samsung Electronics rode powerful sales of its Galaxy S III, Galaxy Note II and other mobile devices to a 76% jump in quarterly profits, with the company's device division more than doubling its 2011 income, the South Korean technology maker said. The company does not break out its device sales, but analysts estimated that Samsung shipped more than 60 million smartphones during the quarter compared with 47.8 million for Apple. Samsung offered a more cautious view for the current quarter, saying it would curtail capital expenditures due partly to a more competitive smartphone market.
