PET imaging with a tracer called FAC allowed for the detection of nucleoside salvage activity in liposarcoma tumor cells, according to a study published in the journal Cancer Discovery. The study also discovered liposarcoma cells with high nucleoside salvage activity are susceptible to the standard chemotherapy drug gemcitabine. The findings indicate the PET imaging strategy may improve identification of patients who would likely respond to gemcitabine treatment.
