Little things by consumers, restaurants and supermarkets in wealthy nations, such as food donations, smaller portions and freezing leftovers -- would go a long way toward reducing global food waste according to a United Nations campaign. Half of the food discarded in industrialized regions is still edible. "This is more than the total net food production of sub-Saharan Africa, and would be sufficient to feed the estimated 870 million people hungry in the world," said José Graziano da Silva, head of the Food and Agriculture Organization.
