Researchers have found one of the earliest animal fossils -- that of an arthropod called a fuxhianhuiid that lived some 520 million years ago. The fossil, found in southwest China, shows primitive limbs under the head, possibly used to sweep up food from the seafloor. The fossil also contains the earliest evidence of a nervous system extending past the head.
