BlendStar's new ethanol loading-and-unloading facility in Birmingham, Ala., will reduce the cost of delivering the biofuel, potentially driving down the price of ethanol-blended gasoline in the area, said Todd Becker, president and CEO of Green Plains Renewable Energy, BlendStar's parent company. "The faster unloading will provide cost economies that hopefully will be passed on at the pump," Becker said. The $17 million ethanol terminal, which can unload 78 trains per month, entered service in December.
