HTC issued a downbeat forecast, adding that it would concentrate more of its marketing efforts in emerging markets as well as on phones with larger screens. The company acknowledged it faces greater competition from low-cost Chinese hardware vendors Huawei Technologies and ZTE as well as Apple and Samsung Electronics on the higher end. Chief Financial Officer Chang Chia-Lin predicted that HTC's first-quarter revenue will be flat to 17% below the previous quarter as the company pins its short-term hopes on the new M7 smartphone.
